Measurement Add-On
Dear JDisc friends,
we have completed our new product “Measurement Add-On” with the new major release JDisc Discovery 5.0. The goal of that product is to measure and report utilization data over time. This data is extremely useful for consolidation or cloud migration projects. In contrast to network monitoring tools, we focus on documenting and reporting the workloads with minimal effects on the target device.
The Measurement Add-On gathers counter information for many device types.
- Printer
- Printed pages (total, b&w, color, duplex mode)
- Toner and ink level
- Windows Computers
- Use any Windows Perfmon counter with user-definable templates
- Sensors
- We can poll temperature and humidity values from sensor devices
- PDU
- JDisc Discovery gathers the current power consumption for each PDU socket
- Routers/Switches
- We collect traffic statistics such as transferred bytes, packets per interface
Creating Windows Templates
Users can create templates with selected counters for Windows computers. Later, the templates will be configured on the target computers to collect the desired counters.
Once configured, Windows Perfmon collects the counter values locally on the server. JDisc Discovery then connects to the server in configurable intervals (e.g. once a day) to collect the counter values and remove the old Perfmon logfiles.
JDisc Discovery creates aggregations for hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly min/max and average values.
Graphical Representation
JDisc Discovery creates a graphical representation of the counter values and how they evolve over time.
Printer Information
JDisc Discovery collects detailed printer statistics for the total page count, the count of b&w or color pages as well as duplex pages (if available).
PDUs
For many PDUs, JDisc Discovery gathers information about the power consumption on each socket.
Sensors
We track the temperature and humidity for many temperature sensors.
Switches and Routers
For switches and routers, JDisc Discovery gathers detailed interface statistics such as sent/received bytes or utilization.
There may be devices that we do not support yet. You can help us to add those devices if you report them and if necessary provide a sample SNMP walk.
Hope you like our new product!
Cheers,
Thomas
