Tip: How JDisc Discovery uses Passwords…

Dear JDisc friends,

today, I would like to talk about how JDisc Discovery remembers access credentials once they have been successfully tested.

Access credentials are essential for a high quality network discovery result. Without access credentials, the data quality will be very poor. Therefore, JDisc allows users to enter access credentials for many different protocols. For some protocols or operating system platforms (such as Unix computers being scanned via SSH), the configuration dialog allows a list of default accounts. JDisc Discovery tries them on the devices and gathers detailed information once one of them succeeds. The product stores the access credentials for each protocol in order not to try the full list of default accounts when the device gets scanned the next time. The next time, JDisc Discovery tries the last successful account first. Most probably, the account is still working fine. However the software tries the list of default accounts again when the last successful account fails.

There is also a way to clear the remembered access credentials either by protocol or globally for all protocols. Open the context menu from any device report and select manage menu.

Use one of the Change… menu items in order to change/clear the access credentials per protocol.The new menu item Clear Cached Accounts… clears all cached access credentials.
