EcholoN integration with JDisc Discovery for ITSM

A long-standing technology partnership

JDisc and EcholoN have worked closely together since 2009. The partnership centres on a shared goal: providing organisations with a reliable, current data foundation for their IT infrastructure and the IT and service processes built on it.

JDisc Discovery automatically detects and inventories the IT landscape. EcholoN uses this information in its central data and process platform, making it available for Configuration Management, IT Asset Management, IT Service Management, and further business processes.

Discovery and Service Management therefore complement one another directly: JDisc supplies current technical information from the infrastructure, while EcholoN places that information in a process context.

JDisc Discovery as the data foundation for the EcholoN CMDB

A Configuration Management Database is only as valuable as the quality and currency of its data.

The EcholoN connector automatically transfers information identified by JDisc Discovery into the EcholoN CMDB. Hardware, software, and further technical information are then centrally available and can be assigned to the relevant Configuration Items.

This turns raw inventory data into a structured, process-ready information base.

EcholoN can link Configuration Items with additional information and objects, including users, locations, organisations, services, tickets, contracts, incidents, or changes. This makes relationships and dependencies transparent and enables them to be incorporated directly into operational IT processes.

Especially in dynamic IT environments, automated updates from JDisc reduce manual maintenance effort while improving the quality of the data foundation.

From inventory to IT Asset Management

The combination of JDisc Discovery and EcholoN goes beyond simply taking stock.

JDisc creates transparency into the hardware and software that actually exists in the IT infrastructure. EcholoN adds organisational, process-related, and commercial context to this technical information.

In IT Asset Management with EcholoN, discovered assets can, for example, be connected with locations, users, contracts, costs, maintenance information, or their respective lifecycle.

Organisations therefore receive more than a snapshot of their IT landscape: they gain a dependable information base for daily operations, planning, and decisions.

Current data for IT Service Management and support

The integration becomes particularly valuable when the information provided by JDisc flows directly into service processes.

In IT Service Management with EcholoN, current information about devices and other Configuration Items can be used directly in relation to incidents, service requests, problems, or changes.

A service employee therefore sees more than a ticket and gains access to the affected system’s technical and organisational context at the same time.

This supports, among other things:

  • faster isolation of disruptions,
  • better assessment of planned changes,
  • traceable relationships between services and Configuration Items,
  • current information for the Service Desk and support,
  • less manual maintenance of infrastructure information.

JDisc Discovery provides the technical transparency, while EcholoN integrates the information into the relevant service and business processes.

EcholoN today: more than a classic ITSM solution

Although IT Service Management and Configuration Management remain core application areas of the joint solution, EcholoN has evolved significantly from a technological perspective.

EcholoN is now an Enterprise Application Framework for digital business processes and specialist applications. Organisations can use existing solutions and process templates, adapt them individually, and implement further applications on the same technical platform.

The EcholoN Enterprise Application Framework connects data and information, users and permissions, workflows and automation, user interfaces, and interfaces to other systems.

This means that information from JDisc can be used not only for classic ITSM processes. It can become part of additional individual processes and applications when technical infrastructure information is needed there.

A partnership with lasting value

Since 2009, JDisc and EcholoN have been connected by more than a technical interface. Their long-standing collaboration brings together two complementary strengths: automated discovery and inventory on one side, and data, asset, and process management on the other.

For shared customers, this creates an end-to-end connection between the IT infrastructure that actually exists and the management and service processes built on it.

JDisc Discovery keeps the technical data base current. EcholoN structures this information, establishes relationships, and makes it usable for operational processes.

This makes Discovery a dependable foundation for CMDB, IT Asset Management, and IT Service Management.
