JDisc Backup Discovery: Gain Full Visibility into Your Veeam Backup Environment
Veeam Backup Discovery in JDisc helps organizations bring backup information directly into their IT inventory. Backup solutions are critical for protecting business data, but information about backup status, backup jobs, and protected devices often remains isolated inside backup management consoles.
IT administrators frequently need answers to questions such as:
- Which devices are actually protected?
- When was the last successful backup performed?
- How much backup storage is being consumed?
- Which backup jobs are responsible for protecting specific systems?
Until now, answering these questions required switching between multiple tools.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce Backup Discovery in JDisc Discovery, starting with native support for Veeam Backup & Replication.
With this new feature, JDisc integrates backup information directly into your IT inventory, allowing administrators to view backup-related data alongside device, server, cloud, and infrastructure information from a single platform.
π Why Veeam Backup Discovery Matters
Backup systems contain valuable operational information that is often disconnected from the rest of the IT inventory.
With JDisc Backup Discovery:
- Backup information becomes part of your central inventory database.
- Protected devices can be linked directly to their backup jobs.
- Administrators gain visibility into backup status without opening separate backup consoles.
- Backup and asset information can be analyzed together for improved reporting and compliance.
This creates a unified view of both your infrastructure and its protection status.
π What Veeam Backup Discovery Discovers
JDisc retrieves extensive backup information directly from Veeam Backup & Replication.
Examples include:
- Backup Jobs
- Backup Repositories
- Backup Sizes
- Last Backup Execution Times
- Backup Status Information
- Protected Devices
- Backup Relationships
- Job Configuration Information
- Backup Storage Details
This information is automatically synchronized into JDisc and linked to the corresponding inventory objects whenever possible.
βοΈ Configuring Veeam Backup Discovery
Getting started is simple.
π Prerequisites
Before configuring the integration, ensure that:
- A Veeam Backup & Replication environment is available.
- An account with sufficient permissions to read backup information has been created.
- The JDisc Discovery server can communicate with the Veeam server.
π JDisc Configuration Steps
-
Open:
Discovery β Configuration β Backup Tools
- Select the Veeam tab.
- Click Add Veeam Server.
- Enter the required connection details:
- Server Name
- Server Address
- Username
- Password
- Additional connection settings if required
- Save the configuration.
Once configured, the Veeam environment becomes available for Backup Discovery.
π Running a Backup Discovery Job
After configuring the Veeam connection, backup information can be collected during a discovery job.
When creating or editing a discovery job:
- Open the job configuration.
-
Enable the option:
Scan Backup Tools
- Start the discovery job.
During execution, JDisc connects to the configured Veeam environment and imports all available backup-related information.
The collected data is then integrated into the inventory database and linked to discovered devices and systems.
π³ Veeam Backup Discovery Relationship Tree
One of the most powerful aspects of the new Backup Discovery functionality is the Relationship Tree.
The relationship view provides a graphical representation of how discovered backup objects are connected.
Administrators can easily navigate relationships between:
- Devices
- Backup Jobs
- Backup Repositories
- Backup Sets
- Backup Servers
- Protected Workloads
This makes it significantly easier to understand:
- Which devices are protected by which jobs
- Where backups are stored
- Which repositories are used
- How backup infrastructure components relate to each other
Instead of manually tracing dependencies inside the backup solution, the entire structure becomes visible directly inside JDisc.

π Veeam Backup Discovery Reports and Inventory Views
Backup information is available throughout JDisc.
Device Details
Inside the device details view, administrators can now see:
- Related Backup Jobs
- Backup History Information
- Protection Status
- Associated Backup Objects
This allows backup information to be reviewed directly while analyzing an asset.
Backup Reports
Several new reports provide insight into your backup environment, including:
- Protected Devices
- Backup Jobs
- Backup Sessions
- Backups
- Backup Relationships
These reports help organizations identify gaps in protection and better understand their backup landscape.
π€ Why Backup Visibility Matters
Backup infrastructure is one of the most important components of any IT environment, yet it often operates separately from asset management and inventory systems.
By integrating Veeam directly into JDisc Discovery, organizations gain:
- Unified visibility across infrastructure and backup systems
- Faster troubleshooting and auditing
- Improved compliance reporting
- Better understanding of protection coverage
- Easier identification of unprotected assets
And this is only the beginning.
π‘ Help Shape Future Backup Integrations
Veeam is the first supported platform in our new Backup Discovery framework, but it certainly won’t be the last.
Many organizations use a variety of backup solutions to protect their infrastructure, and we’re interested in learning which platforms matter most to our customers.
Are you using another backup product such as Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Rubrik, Cohesity, Acronis, Dell Data Protection Suite, or another solution? We’d love to hear from you.
Your feedback helps us prioritize future Backup Discovery integrations and expand visibility across even more backup environments.
If there is a backup platform you would like to see supported in JDisc, please let us know through our support team or customer feedback channels.
If you’re already using JDisc Discovery and Veeam Backup & Replication, now is the perfect time to bring your backup visibility into your central inventory platform.
Stay secure, stay informed,
Raphael for JDisc
