Network Discovery Software: How Manage Access Credentials

Web

Dear JDisc users,

Network Discovery Software like JDisc Discovery requires access credentials to get excellent and complete inventory information. Configuring access credentials can be difficult and, in some cases, dangerous if not used properly. JDisc Discovery uses a variety of protocols and APIs to obtain information, and all of them require credentials. Furthermore, there are different locations where to configure access credentials. Configure access credentials

  • to access Windows computers that belong to a specific Windows domain
  • to access Windows computers that belong to a particular DNS domain or Active Directory organizational unit
  • to define a list of default accounts probed for each device for various operating system platforms and APIs
  • specify access credentials on JDisc group levels

It is essential, especially for domain credentials, to use a single password. Otherwise, the domain controller might lock the account.

But how do you keep track of all those access credentials and avoid duplicate definitions and multiple password configurations for a specific account?

Hope you like it and that it helps to troubleshoot your access credential definitions…

Cheers,
Thomas
