Network Documentation: How to scan oVirt Environments!

Dear JDisc friends,

We are continuously improving our scanning capabilities. Starting with build 5130, we will support Red Hat’s oVirt virtualization management software (starting with version 4). oVirt is similar to VMware’s VCenter. oVirt lets you define virtual datacenters, clusters and assign physical servers to the clusters. The support also includes Oracle’s Virtualization Management software based on oVirt.

JDisc Discovery uses oVirt’s Java SDK to retrieve data via oVirt’s REST interface. And, of course, you will need access credentials. Use the OVirt tab within the Accounts area to configure access credentials for your oVirt server.

JDisc Discovery will use the oVirt API when it finds the “ovirt-engine” process running on the oVirt management server. When the process is not found, then we are not going to probe the oVirt API.

Once we have access to the oVirt API and we can read information about the infrastructure, we display the data in our virtualization viewer.

Hope you like this new feature and as always, feedback is more than welcome.

Cheers,
Thomas
